Team South Africa Wraps Up Final Day of Competition at the 25th Summer Deaflympics

As the curtain begins to draw on the 25th Summer Deaflympics in Tokyo, Team South Africa concluded its final day of competition with three swimming events on Tuesday, 25 November 2025. It was a day marked by commitment and pride as our athletes gave it their all in the pool one last time.

Terence Parkin and Amkele Qamaran – 100m Breaststroke

Veteran swimmer Terence Parkin competed in the Men’s 100m Breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:10.35 and a 12th place ranking in his heat. Parkin’s consistency and dedication have been evident throughout the Games, making this a fitting final event for his campaign.

In the same event, Amkele Qamaran represented South Africa in the men’s field, clocking 1:16.81 in his heat and placing 25th overall. This was Amkele’s last individual swim of the Games and caps off a week filled with valuable international experience.

Kate Allwood – 200m Freestyle

In the Women’s 200m Freestyle heats, Kate Allwood posted a time of 2:34.10, placing her 27th overall. Competing in four different events during the Games, Allwood’s strong showing today was a proud end to her Deaflympic journey this year.

Men’s 4x100m Medley Relay

Team South Africa’s last race of the Games was the Men’s 4x100m Medley Relay. The relay team of Mark Roach (backstroke), Terence Parkin (breaststroke), James Willers (butterfly), and Amkele Qamaran (freestyle) completed their heat in 4:27.47, finishing 9th overall. The race was a true team effort and a strong show of national spirit, rounding off a determined performance by our men.

As Team South Africa wraps up its competitions, attention now turns to the Closing Ceremony tomorrow, 26 November 2025. Athletes and officials will gather to celebrate the end of a memorable Deaflympics one filled with personal bests, international friendships, and a proud representation of our country.
