South Africa sees strong representation in the pool
Team South Africa continued their campaign at the 25th Summer Deaflympics with four swimmers diving into action on Monday, all competing in the heats of various events.
Men’s 50m Freestyle – Mark Roach & Amkele Qamaran
Mark Roach produced a determined swim in the heats of the men’s 50m freestyle, clocking 24.50 seconds, which saw him progress to the semi-finals. In the semi-final round, he delivered a solid 24.67, but it wasn’t enough to advance to the final. Still, Mark’s journey to the semi-final at this level is commendable.
Amkele Qamaran also took to the pool in the same event, finishing with a time of 28.49 seconds, placing him in 52nd overall. Though not enough for a semi-final berth, Amkele gained valuable international experience and continues to represent the nation with pride.
Women’s 200m Breaststroke – Kate Allwood
Kate Allwood competed in the women’s 200m breaststroke and finished in 3:12.38, placing 19th in the overall heats. Despite not advancing, Kate has shown great resilience in her events and continues to grow with every swim.
Men’s 100m Butterfly – James Willers
James Willers took on the men’s 100m butterfly and finished in 1:10.16, placing 28th overall. Though not advancing, James gave it his all and showcased strong effort against a highly competitive field.
